Re: johnson 35 ignition switch

Any suggestions on this, I can short out the black wire from one of the coils and kill it manually, Does that mean a bad coil? How to tell which one?

thanks

Before anyone can help, you need to tell us the model. Different year 35's had different ignitions.

The black wire with the yellow stripe should be from the power pack to the ignition. when the ignition is off it should be connected to the black wire which goes to ground on the engine. In other words, grounding the black w/yellow tracer should kill the engine.

BTW, I'm no expert on this. I just happen to have a '77 35 hp and I'm sure it's the same.

I'm new and cant find where to post. I have a 35 horse johnson (1976). I just bought it. Motor wont turn over from ignition, but will turn over from starter. I bought a knew after market ignition and it still doesnt turn over. Can u give me the next step. I can touch the battery with the white wire which goes to S on ignition and touch postive on battery and it turns over. My wires are white, blue, red with stripe, purple with stripe, blue with stripe
