This is my first post on this forum. I want to thank everyone in advance for this site and your help.
I did search for my answer and found like posts but not what I need. I have what I beleave to be a 94 Johnson 40, mod# J40TLERE . I just got this boat and have been using it 2 to 3 times a week. It has started leaking gear oil from the prop shaft. I drained and refilled it and it seems to be leaking faster. I am hoping that I can replace Any prop shaft seals needed myself. I would like to limit the disassembly to only what is necessary. where can I find a diagram, parts list and any specific procedure. basically, how hard is this going to be?

You can drill into this site and find the parts list and schematic BRP Outboard Parts

You really need to buy a manual to assist in doing this job, or your local library may have one.

Re: johnson 40 prop saft seal

BoatBuoy, thanks. That is just what I needed, great site. I have been playing in inboards so long I really did not know where to go for outboard help. I picked up the gear case seal kit today, Looks pretty straight forward. maybe a couple special tools like a puller for the prop shaft bearing housing. maybe a wheel puller and some all thread? if I can find the right size. anyone got some tricks or tips for disasembly and getting it all back together right?
