Hello:D I'm replacing the water pump on my 1962 johnson 40 seahorse electrometric shift and was wondering the corrected way to drop the lower end? I know I have to be carful on not to damage the shifting wiring. I started to taking it off but was scratching my head on if I need to disconnect the wiring and where the correct place would be to do that, or do I just need to help guide the wiring down the shaft to a point to where I can get to the water pump??? any help would be apreasheated

thanks
Paul

I know I need the manual-looking for one right now...

Have you removed the rear midsection cover yet? (Whole bunch of phillips screws) After you get that off, you will see the shift wire. Slide the insulator tubes back from the knife connectors and dis-connect them. Then remove the access cover from the midsection, and feed the wires out through the hole. Now remove the bolts from the plate that you will find the first one. Slide the plate off the wires. Tie a string to the wires to aid in reassembly. Now you are ready to drop the lower unit.
