 Johnson 48 HP model #J48ESLCCC (built 1988). How do you remove the lower power unit? I have removed all the bolts off the bottom. It dropped down about an inch but the drive shaft is still connected. How do I disconnect the drive shaft to totally remove the lower unit? The skeg is bent and I need to take the lower unit in so it can be straightened.

You will need to release the shift shaft. To accomplish this, disconnect the battery, remove the starter and let it hang by the cables, and then you will see the screw at the top of the shaft.
