johnson 5 1/2hp starts but wont idle

help engine will start but will not idle , i have checked all fuel lines good pressure , starts when i spray starting fluid into carb, runs then stalls have been told to take out spark plugs and spray oil into cylinders to revive compression this did not work anyone have any ideas fuel pump seems good could it be in the carb? thanks for all input jnallyn@netzero.com

dont use starting fluid you will wash the cylinders of oil and make big problems. make some premix in a spray bottle and shoot that into the carb.if it runs with that then you have a carb problem.you said it runs on starting fluid so i would say to get a carb kit and rebuild the carb
