Hello: I just bought a 5.5 Johnson model cd19s for $200. Is this too much? The seller started it before I purchased. Seems to be OK. I need the fuel mixture ratio (24:1?) the recommended spark plug and gap. How can I know that the impeller is OK without pulling the lower unit apart?
Thanks for your help.

It isn't too much if you are happy. That's really what counts, right? Fuel mix is 16:1 or 24:1 depending on who you ask and their opinions. Plug is J6C @ .030". Impeller?? you can't.

CD-19s is a 1962. I have an Evinrude the same year for sale, for $350, so you didn't do too bad. Mine has a rebuilt lower unit, new impeller and housing, plus a new ignition system. If you get one without all the new stuff but runs good, it's worth about what you paid. That motor should be run at 24:1. The newer 5.5's (61 and newer) do have a needle bearing set up on the crank and rods, so it's a nicer set up, than the ones of the 50's. The earlier ones that were friction type motors, should be run at 16:1 though.

You have to remove the powerhead to drop the lower unit on those models. That's the only way to change the impeller.
