Trying to remove the engine block.

First off, my Seloc manual does not describe how to remove the engine block, or give any indication on how it is fitted, no technical diagrams or anything. To quote the book it says "We assume you have managed to remove the engine block". And of course, this is were I am stuck.

I have removed the 8 bolts, and the nut that sits upside down, also two smaller bolts which fits the exhaust housing to the lower housing (probably not necessary). Also unplugged the "gear lever". One of the 8 bolts snapped! It is the number two bolt from the right in the picture. But since it isn't threaded, I assume it's ok to pull it out together with the engine block.

Engine block / Exhaust housing picture

Since I have no idea how it is fitted, I wonder what segment should come of, if you look at the picture in the link above, it seems there is a middle section (exhaust housing i presume), should the block come off from the top of this one? This is what I have tried, but even with all bolts/nuts off, it still feels like it is welded on. I have tried banging it, pulling it, with/without heat and what not. Im just about ready to stick a few pounds of dynamite on it, just to see what it's made off.

What I hope is if you have any tips on what I can try out to successfully get the engine block off. Have anyone here had a similar situation? And how much force should I expect to apply to separate it?

Been a while maggun but I thought there was two nuts to remove also....either way up front...have to turn the engine a little to get to them or in the back. Pretty sure there is. It will probably be stuck to the adaptor plate gasket also so a little prying would be in order. Are you trying to lift it by hand or do you have a shop hoist attached? Some means of lifting it would help. The broken bolt wont' help any. Probably corroded into the hole which is cause for many words of disgust. Check for those two nuts. That may be the big problem right now.

I have tried using a hoist, but I just end up lifting the boat together with the engine.

I can't say I have seen any other bolts or the two bolts you refer to, and I have had a good look on it. But I will look for them. As said I have removed two smaller bolts on the back, which holds the exhaust housing to the lower housing.

In saying that, it is difficult to see with my bare eyes what is going on where the steering rod/mechanism exists just under the engine block and out from the exhaust housing. From my best guess, this rod is connected to the lower housing and not a concern.

Did you release the shift rod? It's under and to the rear of the lower carb. You can get to the bolt from the port side of the engine. No doubt getting the power head to release from the midsection can be a challenge especially if used in salt water or if the engine hasn't been removed since new. Sometimes lifting the power head with the hoist and shaking the eternal snot outta' it works......some harsh language will help.

Yes, the shift rod is released. I refered to it as "gear lever", sorry about that.

You are dead on, it has been used in salt water, rarely washed in fresh water after use and before winter storage, and it has not been removed since new.

And I promise not to underestimate the power of profanity.
