Working on a 2001 2 cylinder 50 hp 2 stroke Johnson. Top cylinder compression 145, bottom 130. Sounds like running on one cylinder and a lot of gunky sludge coming out of exhaust (unburned oil/fuel) Top spark plug shows normal discoloration bottom cylinder spark plug looks brand new (both plugs changed before running it for 20 minutes.) Both carbs just cleaned. Good spark on both cylinders. I took the airbox off and sprayed combustion cleaner in the carb. The top carb pulled the cleaner in and the engine slowed down. Bottom cylinder carb pooled the cleaner in the throat and did not pull in the cleaner and did not slow the engine down when spraying it in the throat. I noticed if I put a rag over the top carb the engine would die right away. The bottom carb showed no change when covering the throat of the carb (engine stayed running fine). I sprayed a ton of cleaner into the bottom and top carb and was rewarded with a run away engine. I couldn't shut it off I had to unplug the fuel hose and let it run itself out of gas. Anyone know why the bottom cylinder is not pulling in fuel/air? Note that when checking compression on the bottom cylinder the guage kind of fluctuated as it was cranking over

Bad reed valves.-----Blown bottom crankshaft seal.----Bad piston / rings.----Some will argue , but remove cylinder head and inspect stuff.

As a test I pulled the shrouds which exposes the upper part of the driveshaft where it enters the crank. I sprayed a decent amount of wd40 through one of the reeds on the lower cylinder and none of it came out from the bottom of the crank area. Is that a good test?

I also pulled the reeds and shined a flashlight into the carb opening. I can see a decent amount of light when viewing the ends and sides of at least 2 of the reeds for the bottom cylinder. The top cylinder reeds also show a little light but not as much as the bottom ones.
