Our neutral switch is failing. We are told it is no longer available. Dealer wants to sell us new motor and all for around $1500. We want a new switch, or at least a schematic so we can repair the old one. Can anybody point us in the right direction? Thx

I'll bet the dealer wants to do that. Is this switch in the control box or in the engine? Lots of used controls out there, and your switch should be available, either way, from an outboard wrecking yard like tcoutboard.com.

If the engine's running well...hang on to it. There's always a solution.

By the way. I went to ishopmarine.com, drilled down to that year's 50hp model. They have almost all the internal parts for the control, including all the switches.

They also have the switch inside the cowling. Look at the crankcase group.

Someone's blowing smoke up your leg.

A new motor because your neutral safety switch is bad?? thats like building a new house because your door lock is broken. Go somewhere else and I would even consider reporting that guy.

Are we talking about the neutral safety switch (wont let the starter engage if its in gear) or the shift switch (shifts the motor in and out of gear)?

Or the switch on the powerhead thats throttle position related?
