Johnson 55hp 1978 command center - no reverse after full throttle

Hi,

I have a johnson 55hp from 1978, that had problems with the ignition switch. When i changed this and assembled the command center control box i got a new interesting problem:
When I push it to full throttle and move it back to neutral, it's impossible to get in the reverse.if I increase the throttle again the propeller is not rotating. It all works completely fine if i don't max it, the reverse ticks in smothly and everything.
After troubleshooting this for serveral hours think it's has something to do with the cogs completely unhooking when in full throttle.

Anyone who has had this problem or knows how to solve it?

i've searched all forums without the answer for this one :S
Please help.

Im having the same problem with my Johnson. Unfortunately I havent figured it out yet. I have searched everywhere for an answer. Im going to take it to a buddy tonight. I will keep you posted if I have any luck

Solved it yesterday in the command center there's a part called "cam" where a metall pin is sliding. The marin grease had gotten old so it didn't slide without friction as it should be doing. This caused some wearing on the cam-part and resulted in the pin jumping out of the cam track when the throttle was pushed forward. When this is dissalocated it stops you from putting in the reverse again and leaving the motor out of gear.
My recommendation and what solved my problem was to grease in the cam part. Since i had used alot of force pushing the lever down several times i also had to polish the cam with sand paper to take of some sharp edges i had created while troubleshooting the issue.

Ps the cam part is a beige colored 2-3" sliding track. You should see it right away.
When doing this, you need to make sure that the Cogs underneath is placed in the correct position, if you don't position the cogs you won't be able to put in the reverse.
