i have a deposit on a merc. 8 , 4s but thinking do i need all that , then thinking about the 6 4s merc but there to much vibration and doesn't idle like it should. heard that from past stories. kinda nothing but trouble. the place where i'm buying has a 2005 johnson 6 h.p 4 stroke now do these johnson motors have the same problems as mercury ? thinking those problems come with any single cyl. from what i heard johnson doesn't make small motors any more whould it be hard to find parts if brought to a repair shop?

There is no question a single 4 stroke can vibrate; some more than others.
From reading here some small twin 4s vibrate too.If at all possible I would want to test drive any before I buy.

I have a 2004 johnson (BRP) 6 horsepower. I think it runs pretty smooth, -and I'm mounting it on an sailboat extension bracket. Did you buy it?
