I bought a 6hp 1979 johnson motor. The tank had no gas so I put a gallon in a drove it around the lake. Worked fine took it home wnet fishing the next day and filled the tank with gas. The motor started fine, but when I would give it gas would run and then stall. I found if I primed the bulb it would stay running. I bought a kite for the fuel pump and installed it with the same results, if I pull the hose of the carb the prime bulb will shoot the gas out and the pump will squirt gas out but will stop pumping shortly. I have check all the connections and they look good. can someone tell me what is wrong?

You did add the proper amount of 2-stroke oil to the gas, didn't you?

Yes two stroke mix at 50:1 as JayM001 reminds us.

I understand that with the hose off the carb the priming ball will pump gas through OK ... correct?
I also think you are saying that if you crank the motor the fuel pump will pump gas through to start with but then stop ... correct??

If so then you probably have a leak that is allowing air to be sucked in.
The most likely place for that is the fuel connector. It has an O ring in it that may be worn.
