Hi guys, you have been very helpful with my previus problems so im back with another.

Im looking for a new prop for my Johnson 60ESL71C. Im looking bo buy 13x19 Solas, now I found the one for my motor, but I cant get anyone to ship it to Europe. The alternative is a Solas Alcup # 0415-130-19-2 and its not stated for my Johnson.

Does anyone think this should fit?

Thanks, jole

I dont know if it will fit but 19 pitch is a lot for that motor. I have one and unless you have a really small light boat you are probably going to be way overpropped. I run a 15 pitch on a flat bottom aluminum boat and it performs well. I have used a 17 pitch but it wasnt really any faster and was slower on takeoff. Dont take my word on this, but I think you can probably run newer johnson props as long as you use the spacer from the old prop. I was doing this. Borrow a regular later model prop and check the clearances.

Thans for that. I have a light boat, now the prop is 13 1/4 x 17 stock and it jumps out of the water with 5 people up to 29Nm at WOT. I just want to reduce the rpm at cruising speed at a long distance.

Maybe its not the right thing for my plans?

Thanks,jole

Your motor needs to be able to operate within its designed rpm range.
Your hp is rated at 5,000 the motor should be able to run at about 5,500 with a light load. You can cruise at any speed you want.
Usually if you want to cruise at a reduced throttle setting a 4 blade prop should
help. What is the present rpm at wot(wide open throttle)?light load.
Be sure you read the stickies at the top of the page and the helps at the prop store page. If you get us your present max rpm and speed(preferably by gps)
We can help.

Re: Johnson 60hp 1971 prop selection

There`s my problem, I dont have an rpm gauge, but from the sound i think that it runs from 5000rpm to 5500 rpm at WOT. The top speed is 29-30Nm with gps, it doesnt realy matter if Im alone or if its a full boat.
So for now im rebuilding my stock prop and making a rpm gauge.

So if it spins too 5500rpm ill probably go for a 19" pitch next year.
Am i thinking right?

Thanks,jole

Generally they recommend operating near the top of the rpm range with todays fuels.
If it jumps out of the water with 5 people your rpm may be high enough the go with a higher pitch.Instead of building a tach you might consider a tinytach
about $40 and works by pulses from a plug wire. One for yours will fit any 3 cylinder 2 stroke.
