The motor cranks fairly well maybe 4 pulls. When giving it throttle it almost chokes out. If I pull out the choke just a little bit it runs like it should, but I have to keep holding the choke or it will die. I have no idea what to check?
Thanks in advance.

also after running for a little while it is really hard to get started. The throttle has to be turned up in order for it to start.

The carburetor is no doubt fouled. Remove, clean, and rebuild it with a complete carburetor kit.

But before you do that, have you tried simply adjusting the carburetor knobs? It might just be set too lean.

AND, your hard starting when warmed up smacks loudly of bad/cracked coils. Extremely common on those old motors, and hard starting when warm is one of the classic symptoms. Bad coils usually fool a guy into thinking he has carburetor trouble. They have new ones here at iboats
