I'm trying to remove the fly wheel on my Johnson 70 HP model TLESB so i can replace the stator , I've removed the nut but cant seem to get the fly wheel off . I have a 24" breaker bar and a strap wrench on the fly wheel to hold it but it just wont budge . Are there any tricks out there to get this off ? , I also soaked it with some PB Blaster . Might just be the pic but the puller looks canted. Make sure you didnt thread the bolts into the stator...use a breaker bar and put pressure on and wait, next day a little more pressure, etc...they eventually pop. On stubborn ones you can try tightening with an impact. That's frowned on though. A few light taps with a hammer is also frowned on but you got to do what you got to do. Cheap pullers dont work, they flex.

I've put so much pressure on it with th 24" breaker bar the puller is bent a little , it's a cheap puller . I'll try backing those bolts out a little i didn't know you can get into the stator.

Maybe flip the puller over if it stays bent. Work on even pressure on each of the three lobes.

If the puller is bending it is not up to the job !!-----Even with the factory puller you almost always give the center bolt a bump with a hammer.----Many years ago my boss used to hit it with the hammer.------Saved me from any blame.------His sons now still run the same shop !!

Thanks for the advice ! , it's hard to believe that the fly wheel is on there so tight . I'm sure its never been taken off (30 year old motor) I've had it for 3 years now and i think i'm working out the last few issues ?? (hopefully) it sat for 12-13 years out in the hot carolina sun....

Sorry----When the nut is torqued the flywheel taper is stretched over ( onto ) the crankshaft taper.-----This makes for a " zero movement fit" that can withstand 5500 RPM for 1000 hrs.------It takes a bit of effort to pop them off.-----Same effort whether it was on for 1 week or 20 years !!-------
