Johnson 70hp VRO 1990. Airfilter?

Hi Ya All, Is there an airfilter fitted to the carb intake on the above motor? When I did the carb clean I noticed the lack of filter in the carb cover, it looks like it should have one.

It's just an airbox, no filter.

Tyronutt,<br /><br />I know your waters. Here, Malta is full of fine dust - all the time. It drifts out to sea in clouds when the conditions are wrong.<br /><br />But most outboards have no filter, because the oily deposits that soon collect in the airbox and under the motor cowl trap the dust that the water doesn't absorb. Never a big problem. JB is right.<br />When I clean the airbox I wipe it round afterwards with an oily rag.<br /><br />Microplus - a great little boat, and with your J70 it should fly!

I've got an OMC commercial 65hp (detuned 70hp) that was sold in your neck of the woods...no filter in the box. My other 70hp (1991 "domestic") that sold in the USA is same.
