johnson j85tlcsa .

bought this as a basket case / project , seems i have no use for it for the time being , i got it to run nice but i have a problem that i am sure someone has already addressed.

the timer base was sticking so the PO in his wisdom of knowing all there is to know about 2 stroke outboards decided that the top stop screw that adjusts the high speed timing needed adjusting to make it right.
problem is , i want to sell this motor off but i don't want to sell it before i get the upper end timing corrected , the motor is on a stand so water trial with a timing light under load is not an option .

any one have any tricks or cheats to get this set corrected staticky on a stand .
i want to be able to assure the buyer that it is set up ready to use.

You can set max timing at cranking speed with plugs out/grounded With a timing light. Look up ‘Joe reeves timing method’. You basically set max advance timing to 4 degree less than spec.
