johnson 88 oil running down from powerhead

i have a 1988 model johnson 88 special i mix the oil myself . why is oil leaking down the outside engin cover down to the lower unit please give me some ideas.the motor runs 30mph+ just idols a little rough.

Is it coming down from underneath the flywheel? If it is, it's sounds like an upper crankcase seal is bad and that might explain the poor idle.

its comming from much lower than the fly wheel . its the lowest point in the engin housing and then running down the exterior.

ok so i did not make something clear, the oil i described before is not gear oil its engin oil that i mixed in the gas thats leaking.

You may have a loose drain line between the air silencer and the intake manifold.
