Hello Everybody,
As the title of the post said, i got a johnson 88 SPL 1992 on my boat,
I ran into a little issue recently im just curious the see if anyone had experience something like that already
So before Starting just want to mention that the boat as been serviced this winter and the compression is good
When i got out on the water for the first time this year i was fishing for bottom fish for 2-3 hours already (so positioning over nice structure , let my boat drift and once pass the structure restarting the engine repositionning and do it again....) after 2 hours the boat didnt want to start at all .....so i had paddle to a safe spot (im in the pacific ocean)
that was very hard to go straight with the engine in the water so i tilt it up and after 1hour i was exhausted to paddle so i tilt the engine back in the water and it start like a charm and i when to the marina with it......i started to investiate and the only thing a could found at the time was my battery voltage low .....so i change the battery and never had issue with the boat until tonight .......pretty much same story happen again tonight (i probably went out 10 time with the boat since it happen for the first time whitout any issues and i got a brand new battery the voltage is perfect on it) so i try to start the engine several time without success until i give up (1 hour approx) so i tilt up the engine and start paddleling to a safe spot.....on sure thing when i got to that safe spot i tilt the engine back to the water and he fired up first try and ran very well for the whole night.....so i wonder what could cause me that probleme and why the action of tilting up the engine seem to get it fixed....??
Thanks a lot for your help

Gabriel

Some will argue------I would take the starter apart for cleaning / inspection / ohm check on the armature.-----Should read infinity on a digital meter.-----If flywheel spins slow there will not be a spark generated.----All the cranking damages these starters !

Hello,
So i tested my starter and everything looks good ,
I'm wondering if my problem is my engine got flooded when its kinda bumpy on the water(i notice i strong smell of gas when i had the issue the other day) what could cause that

Are you pushing the key in and holding it in while cranking it over ?

Hello ,
So im still investigating on the issue i got with my boat , i have notice my gas line and primer bulb was getting old so i bought a new one and it came with a anti flooding devices on it ( my old one doesnt have that) so i though that could be my issue .....so i installed the new one and that same night went out with the boat ( the boat fired up first crank ....drive it for 15minute than fish for 45 and than didnt want to start ) so i tilt up the engine and kept fishing.....1 hour later i gave it an other shot and he started but i could tell he was flooded as i needed to gave him some throttle the first few second before he run well .....
should i clean up my carb???
my boat is at the marina right now can i try an easy fix to finish the season without getting the boat out of the water
( the marina im at doesnt have boat launch and its kinda anoying and time consuming the get the boat out of the water )
thanks for your help

The problem is always the carburetors.----Take them apart , and clean / repair as needed.----Test run again.
