Hi all I have a 1985 johnson 8hp that’s been laying around and decided to check it out. This is what I seen when I drained the lower unit oil. Is this considered milky? Gear oil was changed last year and only ran it once after that before it sat.

well seems not to bad just refill but install new nylon washers on the fill screws and retry for a while

next time dump the oil in a jar and wait a few days if water settles on the bottom it is ingesting water

you will need a reseal job but some just keep changing oil every few months maybe just midsummer .

pressure testing will indicate the leaky joints (shaft, propeller shaft or shift shaft) when spayed with soapy water
