is it possible to turn the fuel pump upside down
and still have it run ok? Because i did this because the fuel hoses were getting kinked when the cover is on the motor ,not a lot of room there
but now it starts up but quits when you put in gear and rev it up a bit, starves for gas.
the hose from the pump to the carb is a clear hose
so i can see the gas in it but its not full all the way.only if you prime it ,it fills right up
but when you start the motor it lose's some
it looks like it jumping back and forth in the gas line.Is the hose from the pump to the carb
supposed to be full at all times?
i'd like to use the motor next week and would welcome the help to figuire this one out.

dave.

Hi, Dave.

If the "bubble" in the clear line is jumping back and forth your fuel pump has a bad one-way valve or is incorrectly assembled.

Good luck. :)

Re: johnson 9.5 fuel pump

Dave, I had the same problem with my 9.5 last week. It turns out, that the fitting on the tank was leaking air. The fuel line should be full (no big air pockets) when it's running. The fuel line on mine comes in to the pump from the lower left, so why does your's come from the top?. If you like, I could e-mail you some pics of mine!.

Re: johnson 9.5 fuel pump

i bought this motor second hand,so i wasen't sure if the pump is the right one,as it turns out because i turned the pump upside down it wasen'tkeeping the fuel line full so i reversed it
and it works ok now..i only turned it upside down because the lines were pinched on the right side
if your looking at it from behind ...pinched by the cover. I now have stronger fuel lines that won't pinch and rerouted them so i guess my problems solved.... You guys have been great solving my problems on here and i can't thank you enough!! I work midnights and write here to this
page in the morning so i'm a bit punchy in the mornings lol lol..i'm taking the family camping
and boating in a couple weeks and trying to get
this great little engine up to snuff. i'm just starting to re-paint the cover on my 9.5 it should look like new when i'm finished.work work work there's never enough time to play.As always
---thanks again for your help and if we catch some fish i'll let ya know....dave 43.

Re: johnson 9.5 fuel pump

hello WIND KNOT-ya it may not be the exact right pump for this motor but since i turned it back around the line stays full at idle and at full
throttle so it works for now.i put a new coil on it,the other one looked farly new,and it seems to run smother so i'll take upnorth and try it out.
everything else on it seems ok starts up pretty good and just one pull when warm so i think we have a runner here...i wish they made cars this
good ha ha .thanks again.dave 43
