I bought a boat that had been sittin for a couple of years with a Johnson 9.5 on it The guys grandfather was the original owner and he said the motor didnt see much use because he usually used the trolling motor and it doesn't look like it was used much. I hooked the gas tank I have for my other 9.5 up to it and pulled a few times(I didn't expect it to start) I also put new plugs in. I sprayed a little burst of carb cleaner in and it fired on that but wouldn't on the gas. I figured it would be a good idea to get a carb rebuild kit. Is this a good place to start? Any other things I should try?

Re: Johnson 9.5

check for spark, and compression. get a cheap compression tester, and a spark tester. pretty cheap investment.
i would plan on coils, points, condenser, carb kit with float. impeller at the least. imho

It wouldn't hurt to check the fuel lines and fuel filter too. Make sure the old gas in them hasn't solidified!
