Hi, wondering if anyone can offer any tips or solutions to a fuel issue on my 2 stroke 1993 9.9 hp outboard.

We often pull it up onto a beach and when the weather was pretty hot last week (for the UK at least!) we did this on consecutive days.
I've always lifted the prop /skeg up to the higher position. When we got back to the inflatable to leave the beach I noticed fuel dripping from the cowling and collecting in the boat, more than a few drips so I presume it's been syphoning from the tank if that's possible?
So is it better to just disconnect the fuel hose when it's left for a few hours?
Is there likely to be an issue with my float / shut off valve? The motor runs very nicely otherwise.
Maybe leaving it in the shallow running position is a better compromise?

Owners of other (admittedly later model) outboards don't seem to suffer with this when I've asked them.....

Any advice gratefully received!

Disconnect the fuel line or crack the vent/cap on the tank. The tank is pressurizing in hot weather and pushing fuel through it's pretty common. When you tilt it up it is worse because the float will not push on the needle at that angle and close the carb. Some fuel dripping is normal when you tilt it up.

Thanks - I'll try that next time. Maybe just disconnecting the fuel would be safest. Not too crazy about even having a float bowl full of fuel in the boat but dropping the prop would help with the float needle valve I guess. At least it doesn't sound like anything is faulty. Thanks for the advice
