Yea, looks like after market (CDI, Mallory, Sierra) is your only option, unless a dealer has old stock on hand. I bought CDI coil and it worked fine. Others have used after market products with success as well.

It might just be me but would you recheck your model number. It just doesn't line up with anything or it is always possible it's my limited metal ability. LOL. I've not heard of 9.9 coils being obsolete but I guess that is always a possibility. Best of luck. Rick.

BJ10FRELUA is fifth in the list of 1997 Johnson 9.9 models on the BRP/Evinrude parts catalog site: http://evinrude.cust.shopatron.com/

unless I'm missing something...the parts list shows it as "not available"...surely a dealer somewhere in the US has one...can dealer's put out a needs request sorta like the old junkyard hot line?...if not, I'd suggest seeking one in whatever brand outboard make it was before it was rebadged...or go to cdi's website and send them an email question...otherwise, it's salvage yards and hope...best of luck

Just the OEM coil is obsolete. CDI, Sierra and Mallory still sell them.

wellllllll....cdi's site says to contact them as they can repair it....this particular model no. shows a single coil with 2 lead terminals...so it's a single coil for both cylinders..part no. 0584451...the other suppliers don't list that no. as an original part no. for their replacements...shop2.evinrude.com is the source I used for this info...btw...look at the cost for an ignition module for that model....wow!

My motor uses the same "wasted spark" ignition coil ... bought one last year for my motor, but it didn't solve my problem. Both cylinders fire on the compression stroke and on the exhaust stroke ... or at least that what they're supposed to do, assuming the coil is given correct instructions by the (absurdly expensive and obsolete) power pack.

AS per their site:

R prefixes on part numbers indicate Repair and Return items. Send your original unit to CDI Electronics and our technicians will repair the product and return it to you. The unit under repair is received, de-potted, repaired, and potted within 15-30 working days. (knowing this time frame helps to keep your customer informed). This feature is yet another service of CDI Electronics helping to keep your boat on the water.

You need to ship in for repair.

For the record...in the event anyone comes across this thread...the coil's part no. for his model no. of engine is 584451...not 582106 nor 582366...for which the link posted is a replacement...his engine uses 1 coil to fire both cylinders, not 1 coil/cylinder...if I'm wrong, correct me...enuff already

Right and according to OMC's site is in NLA which is why you need to ship it to CDI to have it repaired or have your dealer make a call to OMC in the west coast , they have an NLA parts division out there.

So far i've called 3 out of 4 dealers here in town, nadda.
