The electrical demon..it started fine, then the other day it would not tilt or trim and would not turn over, then it was fine again for no apparent reason, now its out again -- but you can hear the choke clicking when you push the key in, and there is 12v at the big wires on the starter???

Any ideas on things to check?

Re: johnson 90 vro electrical help

Thanks for the ideas...

Its a 1989 v4 90 hp johnson (j90tlcem)

The battery is fully charged, I checked a fuse that was in the little red rubber connector (not sure if there are others) and there is pleanty of power at the starter.

I did find a bad wire comming out of the harness plug (the big red plug), basically gone to mush, but I traced it to the buzzer behind the dash. If you jump it you get a quick beep of the alarm when you turn the key on then it goes right off. (I was thinking that might be correct operation, buzz til it decides things a are good then goes out. But still no tilt or turning over.

So i was thinking maybe we should bite the bullet and replace the harness on the engine, one rotted wire might mean there are others that will be a pain if not now later. The CDI harness is about $175 so not the end of the world I guess. The risk is that the problem does not go away since i cant really pin point it??
