Johnson 90HP V4 - Slow Take Off

Hi all. My Johnson 90HP V4 is running fine except it takes it a while to pick up to full speed. The engine works fine when its up on full rpm, but when I slow down and go to take off again it takes some time. My friend has a Johnson 85HP on a slightly bigger speed boat than mine and his takes off leaving me for dust, or should I say waves! Has anybody any suggestions what the problem might be. Has had new plugs installed recently.<br /><br />Cheers.

First we need to verify that the motor is running on all 4 at low speed. If so then we need to look at set up. If its set up to turn -- lets say -- 4800-5000 your holeshot will be considerably slower than another similar boat and motor thats set up at 5800.<br /><br />Theres lots more to it but lets start with verifying your top rpm and making sure your compression, spark and fuel delivery is up to spec.<br /><br />Good luck!
