Hello peeps,

The power trim of my motor stopped working while I was bouncing on the waves.

When I try at the helm or motor I hear the relais clicking.

I measured the voltage just before the trim motor and 12V comes thrue. (blue and green wire).
Is there more wiring to check like a ground and if so witch one?

I saw a loose, coroded cable at the motor and tried connecting it to a ground but with no succes. Ill upload a photo from this cable.

Greetz,

Jasper, happy boating.

The corrosion points circled on the picture pertain to the trim gauge, not the electric motor.

The PTT electric motor is a dual polarity motor... voltage to those two wires (Green/Blue) leading to the electric motor cause it to run in one direction... reversing the wires cause it to run in the opposite direction. As such, the electric motor does not require grounding.

If you spliced into those two wires and had your tester connected to "Both" the Green and the Blue wire and got 12v, that indicates that the electric motor has failed..... BUT if you connected to only one wire and ground, that proves nothing.

To test the electric motor, trace the blue/green wires back to their connector and apply battery voltage directly to the connector terminals. If the unit operates in both the up/down mode, then obviously the electric motor is okay. If this is the case.... possibly corrosion at some point... unlikely both relays failed at the same time.

Tap the electric motor's case... sometimes a brush might become stuck.

Let us know what you find.

Voltage meter connected with the spliced cable, 13v pos and 13 volt neg, up and down.

Tried connecting the blue and green wire with jumper wires directly to an external battery but it didn't run.

Also tried tapping on the motor for the brushes.

So the sollution would be removing the motor and clean the brushes or replacing the trim motor?

Thank you for the quick reply!

In your case, there's nothing to lose by dissembling that electric motor to check the brush situation excepting that you might not have a replacement on hand to immediately install if needed.
