Johnson CHARGING PROBLEM!

i have a 1961 johnson,75hp motor that is not charging, i believe the voltage regulator is bad but i can't find a new one. it is battery ignition ie/stator,rectifier,regulator.I noticed that the contact on the regulator is always closed and the regulator only has 2 terminals, field and battery. anyone got any ideas? any help would be greatly appreciated i am pulling my hair out here!

The 1961, 75 had the large juction box that bolted to the transom. Inside, beside's the regulator, there are four screw-in diode's, and a heavy 50 amp fuse. Have you checked those?

Re: Johnson CHARGING PROBLEM!

i replaced the fuse with an inline fuse because the original is obsolete, the diodes test good and the stator test good. is there a way to test the regulator? it has only 2 terminals, field and battery and the contacts are always closed.there is 12 volts at the battery side and 7 volts at the field side. thanks, Gary.
