I have a 85 Johnson 115. I am trying to put a tach on it. My question is if the female end plug on the control box is a plug in for a tach. All I would have to do is plug in and hook to my tach if I understand right. Also what is knob that twists that is just under the ignition key on the control box. You would think I would know that, but I just swithched from a Force to this Johnson, and am trying to figure everything out.

Part number for Tach plug in cable kit is #174732 that plugs into female connector on the controller. Gray wire is tach sense, purple wire 12vdc when ignition on, and black wire is ground. Kit is for 1995 and earlier controls. Try parts search on this site or goggling part number for sources. There's one for sale on EBAY.
