I came across with this motor, decal saying J10GTRSSS, power 11.2 kW, which is 15 HP. Does anybody know whether this motor is 10 or 15 HP? There should be some reason for model number J10, if it actually is 15 HP.
Yes, but it also says power 11.2 kW? I have heard that this GT means that 10 is derated to 15 as kWs say.J10 indicates Johnson 10HP. The rest of the letters give production run and year. The year is 2000, according to the crowleymarine site.
You can't take a 10 and derate it to a 15....you can derate a 15 to a 10 though. Can a 10 be made into a 15? Yes, with different terminology.Yes, but it also says power 11.2 kW? I have heard that this GT means that 10 is derated to 15 as kWs say.
Nobody really knows if this GT is 10 or 15 as the decal says 11.2 kW (15 HP) I think this model was not sold in US (export family) and this is why people are confused. I care since I am about buying one.You can't take a 10 and derate it to a 15....you can derate a 15 to a 10 though. Can a 10 be made into a 15? Yes, with different terminology.
As marked, your motor is a 10 unless it's been modified.
Why do you care? Just curious.
Well I should probably apologize then...never heard of a 11.2 kw cross-referencing a HP rating. And you are correct, reading the model number I would call that a 10 or actually a 9.9 because that was the "I don't have to register this boat" clause. So new one to me.Nobody really knows if this GT is 10 or 15 as the decal says 11.2 kW (15 HP) I think this model was not sold in US (export family) and this is why people are confused.
