Johnson info help plz

I just got a boat with a 85 Johnson. It is titled as a 1984 Johnson 85hp. Serial numbers match. But the model number is showing its a 1974. Model number 85esl 74b. What's up with that

Probably a frankenmotor. That's a motor that is cobbled together from different parts.

Serial number and model number is on same tag so it can't be

It cant be a 1984 motor. OMC didn't make an 85hp in 84, They did make a 90 though. Post a pic, at least I can tell you what year the cowl decal is
