Hi all,

I've run into some trouble with my tilt and trim motor, so removed it to investigate. I found the motor with a fair bit of water in it and the springs for thecarbon bushes rotted. I removed all the components to dry them off and clean them. I replaced the springs for the carbon bushes and the motor is now working ok, BUT I have some questions and would welcome advice!

1. Under the plastic plate that retains the bush springs, on one side of the incoming wires is a contact plate - much like a set of points in an old petrol engine. What is their function? A thermal cut out?

2. Oil level in the pump - I want to ensure i don't overfill. Do I fill up to the filler hole with the pump upright vertical?

3. I read on this forum about a manual release. Do I have this feature? What does it look like? How do i operate it?

Thanks for reading and providing support.

1 might be a trim guage sender. Forget it if it is.
2 fillerup.
3 you 'operate' release valve with an impact driver.:)

If you want to work on it you need the real factory service book.
No aftermkt books like seloc or clymer.
www.outboardbooks.com

My manual has 45 pages dedicated the tilt/trim system alone.
