johnson lower unit

I got water getin in my lower unit. Oil appears to be coming from my water intake vent. Is there a seal at the intake? Can it be replaced w/o dropping the unit? It's a '76, 85hp Johnson.

Hi Bassmeister<br /><br />If the dripping oil appears after running iddle or slow in cold condition, it is probably just unburned twostroke oil, dripping from a drainhole. You can smell teh difference. The lower unit can leak at 5 places: Seals at propshaft, seals at driveshaft , drain og level screw or seal at shifting rod. A pressurize test will show where the leak is. Only the leak at propshaft and drain/level plug can be fixed w/o pulling lower unit.
