johnson model 88

I'm checking out a 1982 johnson model 88 ( it is soupposed to be equvilent to a 90 h.p.) what is the compression reading supposed to be at? and what else should i look for other than milky oil and metal pieces in lower unit

All 4 cylinders should compress within a 15% span, LL.<br /><br />Get a test ride if possible. If not possible, drop your offer 10%.

Check the plugs. They should all look about the same and be a light tan in color. Ask to review the maintenance records - check when the water pump and thermostats were last replaced.
