I have an old Johnson outboard motor I am trying to identify. The original paint color is the maroon/brownish color. I am unsure what size motor it is it is a two cylinder and has about a 8"-8.5" prop on it. I cant find any ID numbers anywhere maybe I am looking in the wrong spots. I am thinking it is a late 50's 10-20hp. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I need a few parts for it and have no idea what year or size motor it is????
I can post pictures if anyone wants

Thanks Mike

Re: Johnson Motor Identification

I have an old motor as well and I couldn't find much info on the motor itself. I was recomended to look for something that looked like this link...

...a little quarter sized disc. On my engine, it's located between the flywheel and the end of cylinder 2. The only problem is that mine only has the serial number, no model info.:(

Re: Johnson Motor Identification

Got pics? The "holiday bronze" motors were built from 1956 to 1958.
1956 - Came in 3, 5.5, 7.5, 10, 15, and 30hp flavors.
1957 - Came in 3, 5.5, 7.5, 10, 18, and 35hp flavors.
1958 - Came in 3, 5.5, 7.5, 10, 18, 35, and 50hp flavors.

By your description, yours could be one of the 10, 15, or 18 hp models. Pics should help us narrow it down...

Post a picture of it with the hood off. Also, you can see them all in living color at www.old-omc.de/
