I have recently purchased a Johnson 90HP V4 sea horse engine. There is no charging wires comming back to the battery to keep it charged. Where should I be looking for an alternator/regulator on the engine to see if its there and just needs wiring up? Can any body help?

The stator keeps the battery charged thru the 2 big wires on the battery. If your tach works, the battery is being charged.

Good luck!

Your regulator may be bad, especially if the tach doesnt work. Or perhaps its just the battery. The only time theres any draw on the battery from the motor is when the starter is engaged.

If you run other things, livewell pump, depth finder, radio(s) etc perhaps the stator cannot keep up.
