I currently have a Johnsnon 1960 RDS22 motor with a powerhead that had broken apart. I have located a 1965 40hp powerhead with 110# Compression. First, is this compression good? Secondly, will the 1965 model fit mine?
Thanks!

Essentially, it will fit. You will see numerous small changes, but you can deal with them. Are you planning on swapping the whole thing with all the stuff attached?

Re: Johnson RDS22 Powerhead Question

I have never done any work on a boat motor, so not sure what I am getting into. We purchased the boat and motor, knowing that the power head had shattered. We are trying to get it up and running for duck season. With the difference in years how hard is it going to be? I have located a complete motor (the 1965 model) that runs but the seller said it has a leaky lower end. I havent bought it yet, want to make sure it will work first.

Re: Johnson RDS22 Powerhead Question

Sounds like it would be easier to swap lower units if the 1960 fits the 1965. Or just reseal the 1965.
