Ok, here's the deal, I just "acquired" a 25hp Johnson Sea Horse, don't know what year, yet. I ran it and it had good water flow from the "**** tube" at idle and low rpm, but when it was opened up the flow decreased significantlly. At one point, at full throttle, I saw vapor coming from the tube, but only a drip of water, once in a while. I idled back to the ramp as soon as I saw that, just to get back on the trailer. Is it normal for the water flow to decrease at higher throttle or is something wrong. Question 2: When under throttle the engine "jumps" like it is jumping in an out of gear. It has a remote throttle and gear selector at the console of the boat. I was wondering if there is any way to adjust the linkages, or is there something more serious wrong.

Re: Johnson Sea Horse 25 problems

Welcome to iboats.

It should pee harder at higher RPMs. You're going to want to rebuild the water pump. But first you want to check out that shifting problem. Make sure the linkages aren't too sloppy and also make sure the shift lever is pulling the motor fully into forward gear. If it isn't, it might just need some shift cable adjusting. If it is getting all the way into forward, then the mating surfaces where the shift dog meets the gear are worn and will need to be replaced. That'll be kinda expensive.

Post the model number and we can ID it for you.
