Hello every body! I just got this Johnson sea horse 4 HP and I wanted to know the year of this model.<br /><br />Johnson Sea Horse :D <br /><br />Model# 4R76M<br /><br />Serial# E4377217

1976 - That's a model number from when it was easy to read the year on Johnsons ('69-'79). <br />Great engine!

'76 4hp uses a Champion J6C gapped at .030" (used to be champion J6J's, but they're not made anymore).<br />Chinewalker suggests you run that engine a little richer than the originally speced 50:1 ratio. More like 40:1. Those use babbitt bearings like the older outboards, so they appreciate the extra oil. Check out the Oil Mix FAQ in the FAQ forum for details on that one. I've got to say, I see where he's coming from.
