I can't find the info plate any where on my 8hp Johnson.I have gone over it with a fine tooth comb. All I can find is a serial # on the block 396556CAV1.Can any info be gotten from this.I believe the engine is a late 80's.

Serial number doesn't really help. Sometimes i've had to take part numbers and look them up. It will give you a general idea, and if you look up a few, it might nail it down to a certain year...
