Hello all.
I was given an outboard from my father and i was trying to date/hp it but i can't find a serial number anyplace. I have found a few numbers under the flywheel etc. but they dont really look like any main serial numbers.

318928 2
323304-d3
2322404
39241c

If any of these are the main number how do i translate it into useable info.

thanks all

Re: johnson serial number

Welcome to the best Boating Forum on the internet.

No they don't mean a thing to me. But, if you have any guess of what the HP is look at http://www.johnson.com then go to Dock Talk. There is an engine model reference chart. This will give you a starting point at least.

Bob

Re: johnson serial number

Those appear to be part numbers. Running those numbers, they were for a variety of 9.9 hp and 15 hp motors built from 1978 thru 1980.

Look for the serial number/model number tag on either of the clamp brackets, the swivel bracket or on the tilt mount bolt area. It might be covered in heavy greae or oil, so some cleaning may be in order.

-John
