Johnson spl 88 1989 water coming from out between mid section and lower unit

I changed out the water pump got everything back together, running on muffs I see water coming out between the mid section and lower unit on the front where they connect together. I have never noticed this much water comming out. Thanks for any help. I have had the motor about 3 years.

Normal operation, that is a drain for the exhaust housing to empty out the water that might sit in there.

If more water coming out than before you changed the pump, you may have missed the big rubber seal for the exhaust.

Or that rubber seal may be bent out of position and leaking. If that is the case, if that is the case, it's possible to expose the composite water pump housing to exhaust gases, which may reduce the life of the housing over time.
