hi everybody
last year i bought a boat with a johnson 70hp 2stroke 1992
the motor blown on me afther 2 run...
i start investigate to repair and i found to many problems on it so i decided to change my motor
i found a boat shop who's selling old 2 stroke engine and the guys propose me a johnson SPL88 commercial 2 stroke .....he recommend it to me because the swap would be easier no need to change controls gage and all that
i dont know much about those engine i just wonder if someone knows them and if the are good and reliable and what i should inspect before buying(asking price 1800$cnd)....the new motor is from de mid 90's as well and apparently the maintenance is freshly done on it and he will do compression test and all that in front of me if i decide to go take a look at it
any advice ??

thank you very much

It is NOT a commercial motor !!-----Witness the compression test carefully.----See that gauge goes to ZERO after reading the number.-----All should be around 120 PSI.-----Great motor if low hrs and in good condition.----And why / how did you blow up your motor after 2 run ??

im pretty sure i bought it blown .....
that was my first boat purchase ....have not check compression and all that
the engine was starting very well and running very well to ....but after couple hours i start cutting off and then i check all that and 2 cylinder was blown out of 3 and all the lower unit needed maintenance as well

Outboard motors are often ruined by inexperienced folks.----If you buy this 88 HP motor then read the owners manual before turning the key.-----
