I am trying to revive a 1981 Johnson 90 HP. It has not been started for about 4 years. It was last used in the bays of Texas. We pulled the plugs and put some oil in the cylinders and let it sit for a week. After a week, we then hand turned the motor, with the plugs, out for several minutes. It turned easily. We then, with the plugs still out, gave it a few shots with the starter. It turned with no problems. The pinion gear stayed up, but I think that is a different issue. We then put the plugs back in and tried it. The motor would not turn. I checked voltages on the solonoid and starter and they appear to be okay. I pulled of the starter and it appears to be a little hard to turn. Unfortunately, I don't know if it is supposed to be a little stiff.

All opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Have a great Holiday Season

Del

Copano,

You can bench test the starter and see if it spins faster.Someone in your area probably rebuilds car starters.Take it to him,and remind him it is marine use.

DHP
