My motor was working fine but we took it out for opening day and right on cue it started acting up. Would not run on full throttle, barely ran at half throttle until we gave it full choke and it ran fine. As long as someone held the choke on it would run. Any ideas what could be wrong? Just had the carb cleaned. Thx for your time

By "had the carbs cleaned" do you mean you had it rebuilt, or just sprayed stuff into it?

Im going through this right now on a 8hp.I rebuilt the fuel pump and now like yours,it will only run on full choke. If it runs better when you pump the ball its probably the fuel pump,if not its more than likely a gummed up carb.If you find the answer please post back Al

Check fuel pump output, check for air leaks in fuel lines, if you don't know when the carbs were last rebuilt with new kits then it is due, if you just rebuilt the carbs and it was OK previously then it is time to tear them down again and look for mistakes. If you just sprayed carb cleaner in there then you most likely did little to nothing other than move the dirt around some at best.

It's considered bad form to hijack someone else' thread. Your problem is different. I suggest you start your own.

In the meantime, I suggest you look at your fuel tank vent or anti siphon valve if you have a built in tank. It's located at the tank outlet.

More than likely after fuel pump overhaul something has got in to fuel circuits something foreign.Verify fuel present to carb/s if so carb/s should be disassemble and cleaned in carb cleaner with any and all welch plugs, jets all parts removed. Do not put anything plastic in carb cleaner as it will melt. SOAK PARTS OVERNIGHT! Not just for an hour or so, I don't recommend it. Rinse with fresh water, and blow dry with clean compressed air immediately.
Reassemble checking needle and seat/s float/s and float adjustment/s, high and low idle adjustment/s. If not present, add inline fuel filter.
