I have a Johnson Super-Sea Horse 40 Electramatic RKL 28B Serial Number J2686213. I'm guessing its in the 60's. It's in good shape. It's sitting on the back of a 1958 Duracraft Duralite Supreme all aluminum 16ft boat. I'm fixing it up for my Dad, who has cancer. I'm going to take him for a ride in his boat and cherish the process to get him there with all my heart.
I'm here to ask, what battery do I need? I have read that at least the early 60 models may not be charging underway. I may need to consider solar, specialized batteries, or something. Bear in mind that I would be satisfied to get it started and make test run but the long game is to take it to the GA rivers down into the coast on solo overnight tours.
And if anyone knows what year this motor is and where I could buy more parts for it, would be appreciated too. I want to have everything in hand for the moment my small engine tinkering neighbor drifts across the street and takes interest.
