My plug wires on my TD20 are shot. I opened up one of the wires and it is field wounded wire, not solid, and the new wires will have to be soldered to each coil. Are these wires something I could make myself or do they still make wires of this type? I did some searching but it seems that current day spark plug wires are no longer of a material that can be soldered. As always, thank you for any help.

Modern solid core wire is what you want. Available at small engine shops, even NAPA. NAPA/Sierra part number is 18-5226. A good shop will sell it by the foot.

When soldering to a coil, get the solder onto the plug wire, well tinned, first. Use as little heat for as short a period as possible on the coil tang.

Thank you, Chinewallker, especially for the part number. I would also like to have the rubber fittings for over the plug but I can improvise or perhaps use a plug wire from a smaller engine as you suggested.

some times better to cut the old wire 1/2 - 1" from the coil and splice it there keeps the heat away from the coil windings just heat shrink it good when you are done.
