Johnson Tilt and Trim

<br />I have a 1976 85HP Johnson and want to install a tilt and trim unit on it. <br />All the used units that I see forsale are for motors 1977 up.<br />I was told that the newer 77 up units will not fit on my 76 motor.<br />Can I buy one of the newer units (77 up) and with some minor alterations install it on my motor?<br />If amswer is YES what alterations do I need to make.<br />Thank You Gordon

Hi Gordon,<br /> I was just looking at my son-in-laws 135 1974,and was thinking that it would work if he got the newer style transom bracketsto go with it. I don't know for sure,but it sure looks like it would
