i have a 1991 johnson 115, just replaced the tilt cylinder and 3 weeks afterwards the threaded fitting going into the top of the middle tilt cylinder began a small leak. it is not coming from around the threads, but between the tubing and the threaded fitting. replaced the O-ring several times thinking it wasnt seating right, but it still is leaking from around the tube. i havent got the OEM O-ring, but have visibly matched up with the one the mechanic installed after the cylinder replacement. will a very small size difference in thickness or diameter prevent it from sealing correctly? the replacement appears to be identical.

Re: Johnson tilt/trim

Well I'm going to give this one a shot, because I'm a plumber, Yes if you don't have the exact right size it can leak, if something is compressing the oring then in most cases it dosn't. If their is just the slightest tear in the O ring then its sure to leak. In some cases where it not compressed and it cocked in their some how then it could leak also. Hope this helps
