Johnson Trim tilt question

Good day,

I do not have serial numbers of engines on hand, but does anyone know if the hydraulic trim tilt from a 1985 Johnson 70 hp, will fit on a 1979 Johnson 70 hp that does not have hydraulic trim tilt? I have the chance to purchase one for a good deal.

Thank you in advance...

Re: Johnson Trim tilt question

It will fit "ONLY" if your transom brackets have the three (3) PTT bolt mounting holes... three on each bracket. Without those holes, there is no way to attach the unit.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the reply I appreciate it!

I've attached pictures, from the looks of my bracket on the starboard side, it matches the diagram, but am missing a hole on the port side of bracket. Can you confirm I'm good to go please.

Thanks again for the assist, and quick reply!

Re: Johnson Trim tilt question

I see three (3) PTT mounting holes on both transom brackets. If you're speaking of the forth (4th) hole on the starboard bracket, that is an access hole to allow you to loosen/tighten the PTT manual release valve.

Notice I had three arrows there, not four. :)

Bottom line = Good to go!

Thanks for the confirmation Joe!

I saw the three arrows, but was unsure when I saw different configuration w/o 4th hole on the port side of bracket. Going to pick up TT at three this afternoon.

Again thanks!

Re: Johnson Trim tilt question

Update,

Found a working T&T very nice working condition for $50 locally.

I've mounted the trim tilt and everything works great! Question I have is on the two fine trim rams in this picture, there are what look to be bolt mounted cups for the end of the rams to rest against. My manual system I removed obviously didn't have them, and the T&T I purchased didn't come with the brackets. Can some one please tell me what these are called so I can locate a set.

Thanks in advance!

Try to find the pads used as they're quite outrageous in price.... $60.00 or so for one.

Thrust pad (2) #321499

Locknut (2) 315077
